Sport is part and parcel of the city’s history. It features in the programme of major events that helped transform the city, namely, the 1888 and the 1929 Expos. Barcelona has also been pioneering in Spain in the realm of building sports facilities: the Sports Hall on Lleida Street, Camp Nou or the Palau Sant Jordi. For more than a century and a half, Barcelona has organised several international sports events of an official nature such as World and European Championships. There are also unique events such as the Mediterranean Games, the Dakar Rally, the Tour de France or the X Games. Evidently, the 1992 Olympics represent the major sports event that is part of our imaginary. This book comes into being in order to encapsulate this tremendous, rich sporting tradition, but with the idea of giving precedence to its visual appeal and graphics.
