Maite Fandos, president of Fundació Barcelona Olímpica (Foundation), welcomed the executives to the 7th International Meeting of World Olympic Museums held at the Saló de Cent (meeting room) of the Barcelona City Hall.

The International Meeting of World Olympic Museums is organized annually by the Olympic Museum of Lausanne, in an effort to generate synergies among the various Olympic Museums throughout the world that are members of the Olympic Museum Network, under the sponsorship of the IOC. 

“The Best Games in History”, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a memorable event which started in the Plaza Sant Jaume and finished in the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum.

Xavier Trias, the mayor of Barcelona, and Gervasio Deferr were in charge of lighting the commemorative cauldron for the 20th anniversary of Barcelona ‘92, under the watchful eye of Ivan Tibau, Secretary General for Sport; David Moner, president of the UFEC (Union of Catalan Sports Federations); Maite Fandos, president of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation and countless other luminaries from the worlds of politics, sport, business and culture who were keen not to miss this moment of nostalgia for Barcelona ‘92.

The Roca London Gallery hosts the photographic exhibition ‘The Transformation of an Olympic City – Barcelona ’92’

The Representative of the Catalan Government in the United Kingdom, the Ramon Llull Institute and the Barcelona Olympic Foundation, in conjunction with the Roca London Gallery, reached an agreement to exhibit a small part of the photographic archive of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation in the British capital. 

 

FROM THE STREETS TO THE FIELDS WINNER OF THE THIRD EDITION OF THE BCN SPORTS FILM FESTIVAL

Maite Fandos, president of the Fundació Barcelona Olímpica, was the person that gave the Ánfora Ciudad de Barcelona to the best film in the third edition of the BCN Sports Film Festival to FROM THE STREETS TO THE FIELDS by the Catalan production Cafetera Productions and directed by Carlos Sánchez-Llibre and Josep Badel.

The International Association of High Performance Sport (ASPC) visits the Museu Olímpic I de l’Esport Joan Antoni Samaranch.

Because of the general Convention of the ASPC, held in Barcelona, the members of the executive Committee have visited the facilities of the Museu Olímpic. Pep Escoda, Technology responsible for the High Performance Centre of Sant Cugat CAR and secretary of the ASPC has been in charge of showing to the delegates of Canada, Sudafrica and Germany the most emblematic places of the Olympic Barcelona. 

 

A new space in the Olympic and Sports Museum

Highlights of the refurbished area of the Olympic Museum include the yacht Dragon Fortuna and two new spaces; one is interactive and aimed at younger visitors, plus a new cultural space dedicated to art and film with sporting connections.

A great turnout for the Olympic Walk

This year, on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Barcelona Olympic Games of ’92, many of those who acted as volunteers turned up in their former uniforms, stored and preserved like a treasure.  

Trailwalker Intermon Oxfam 2012

On the occasion of the second edition of the Interworld Oxfam Trailwalker, the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum will host the Trailwalker 2012 exhibition from 6 to 31 March.
